Winter Concert Music (First Impressions)
The concert music looks fun and energetic, I'm excited to learn this since last year our was not as advanced. "Rejoice the Season" and "Once in Royal David's City" have some high notes and a lot of eighth notes, which scare me. I like "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" because the notes are lower and I love the movie, I don't think songs have to have high notes to be cool (even though a lot are) so I'm excited the most about this one.
First Impressions
"Rejoice The Season"
I could not hit the eighth notes just because the tempo was a bit too fast right now for me to recognize them in time. A lot of the notes were very high as well and I didn't know the beat from measures 104 to the end. But if I look past the stuff that I don't know how to play right now, it's a really good song.
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
The grinch is one of my favorite Christmas movies so when I saw that we were going to play this song for the concert I was really excited. "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch", which is measures 31-60 is my favorite of all of the songs in the arrangement, the beat is really fun and it's easy since I know how the song goes before I start to play. Measures 68-76 are the most difficult because the beat is unusual and I don't know how it goes before I start playing, sometimes I get it exactly, other times I lose myself or mess up completely.
"Once in Royal David's City"
From the beginning of the song until measure 40 the song is simple and easy to play. Measures 43 and 49-52 are the most difficult because the tempo is slow and also has high notes included. It's difficult to play high notes slowly and also to go up and down during. Other than those measures, the song is generally easy to play and has a nice and calm beat.
"Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24"
The high E's in measures 43, 58-59, 66-67, are pretty difficult to play but I'm working on getting there every class because I need practice and I believe that I can make it with enough practice. Measures 143-146 are easy because it reminds me a lot of if we were to just play our scales and then add on extra notes at the end, but, 147-150 are a lot more tough because the way it cuts off the scale at the end of the measure throws me off because I feel like I have to go higher when I actually don't. I'm also worried about the last five measures because holding such a high note (that I can barely reach) for that long amount of time is really difficult, I will most likely take it down to an A so that I can hold it out the entire time and not try to screech out the last note awkwardly during the concert.
